Attention Deficit Disorder

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or AD/HD or ADD) is a developmental disorder.

It is the most commonly studied and diagnosed psychiatric disorder in children, affecting about 3 to 5 percent of children globally. Inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity are the key behaviors of ADHD. Researchers found that 60 percent of the children diagnosed with ADHD continue having symptoms well into adulthood.

Many adults, however, remain untreated. Untreated adults with ADHD often have chaotic lifestyles, may appear to be disorganized and may rely on non-prescribed drugs and alcohol to get by. They often have such associated psychiatric comorbidities as depression, anxiety disorder, substance abuse, or a learning disability. The specific causes of ADHD are not known.
